The Frank’s Universal Standard Medium Slicker has a slightly curved brush pad and can be used for every dog breed that isn’t short-haired. Because of the firmer pins, this slicker is most suited for dogs with thicker coats and coats that have more underwool or tangles.

Use instructions
Daily and regular coat maintenance for small to medium-sized breeds with thicker coats or that have more underwool or tangles and for smaller brushing areas.

For bigger breeds or larger brushing areas, we recommend the Frank's Universal Grande de Luxe Large Slicker Firm. Gently brush and pull the brush towards the handle (don’t twist your wrist). Let the pins glide through the hair and repeat if necessary. Brush without putting downwards pressure on the skin.

To get the best result, we advise you to brush the coat in layers from the hair tips right down to the skin, starting at the bottom of your four-legged friend’s body and finishing at the top. This is especially recommended if your pooch has a difficult long, double or curly coat. For dogs with a shorter coat, you can also brush against the hair growth.

Long coats- Gently brush with a light, long stroke, brushing beyond the ends of the hair tip to avoid static and breakage. For the best result, brush the hair in layers. Start at the bottom by parting the coat horizontally and holding the unbrushed part up with your free hand. Work methodically upwards, keeping your wrist straight to avoid contact with the dog’s skin.

Curly coats- Brush in the direction of the coat growth and then against it using light, long strokes.

Wiry coats- Brush in the direction of the coat growth, then against it if necessary to remove mats and dead hair. If the coat is matted, use this slicker brush in combination with the Show Tech Mat Buster Dematting Comb.

For dematting- Gently put the brush pins on the mat with a tapping movement and tease a few hairs from the mat by pulling the brush towards you and thus removing the pins away from the coat. Repeat until the mat is gone. Brush without putting downwards pressure on the skin. It is highly recommended to check the skin regularly because the pins are slightly firmer and you could scratch the skin if you’re not careful. To prevent mats and tangles, the dog’s coat should be regularly bathed, treated with a conditioner and brushed daily.
